Cut Paper by Myriam Dion

Canadian artist Myriam Dion takes the mundane—a simple newspaper cover page—and transforms it into a delicate, captivating piece of art. Each sheet of newspaper is intricately cut into lace-like compositions, almost reminiscent of textiles. Oh, and these are cut by hand, making these works that much more remarkable. Each motif is carefully cut using an Xacto blade and extreme patience.

Myriam also works in incredibly large scale, such as these installations at Galerie de l’UQAM. It’s absolutely magical to see such intricate cutwork adorning an entire wall. It’s truly mindblowing when you realize these curtains are actually fragile newspaper.
