To say that painter Andy Denzler‘s work is dramatic is an understatement. Even when he uses a tonal palette based in white, his work feels emotional, moody, even erratic. The Zurich-based artist’s efforts are as much about method as subject matter, which ranges from portraits to still lifes. He uses a wet-on-wet technique which he says, “incorporates sudden movements that generate moments of interruption, resulting in a rewardingly rich texture that protrudes out of and recedes into the image itself.” Denzler’s work is so captivating because he vacillates between being as real as a photo to abstract painting styles.
