Meet Summer Pierre, an illustrator who I feel somehow has a direct line to my brain. Rather than posting long-form blog posts about what’s going on in her life, she instead captures those feelings through a comic. A couple of years ago, Pierre found herself in a period of transition and loss, so she decided to begin making the comics as a daily visual journal. It started as nine moments from her day, but then quickly morphed into a one-page narrative. She also draws Book Portraits, which started when she wanted to list out some of her cookbooks. This exploration taught her how books can actually be elevated to beloved objects and “how they encompass our stories as much as the story or information they hold.”

Pierre’s work in inspired by the good stuff, really: daily life, poetry, nature, the puzzles of existence, and the California of her childhood, to be exact. She creates everything by hand in a sketchbook, but then adds color in Photoshop.
